Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Wise Penny (operated by Matrix Mills, LLC, “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use wisepenny.app and related services (the “Services”). It does not apply to third parties we do not own or control.
Our Principles
- We collect only the information necessary to provide the Services.
- We store personal information only as long as we have a reason to keep it.
- We do not sell your personal information or your data.
- We do not use your financial data for marketing or AI model training.
- We are transparent about what we collect, why, and with whom we share it.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account Registration. When you sign up, we collect your name and email address via Google OAuth. You may optionally provide additional profile details such as a display name or profile image.
- Financial Account Data. When you connect a bank, credit card, or other financial account through Plaid, we receive account metadata (institution name, account type, balances) and transaction history. This data is used solely to power the Services. You authorize this data sharing through Plaid’s consent flow — we never receive your bank login credentials.
- Payment Information. If you purchase a subscription, payment is processed by our payment provider. We do not store your credit or debit card numbers. We receive only transaction confirmations and billing contact details.
- Communications. When you contact us for support, we store those messages and any attachments to resolve your request.
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data. Pages viewed, features used, actions taken, and interaction patterns within the Services.
- Device and Log Data. Browser type, operating system, IP address, device identifiers, referring URL, and access timestamps.
- Cookies. We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain sessions, remember preferences, and understand usage patterns. See Section 7 for more detail.
Information from Third Parties
- Plaid. When you connect a financial account, Plaid transmits account and transaction data to us on your behalf. Plaid’s handling of your data is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
- Google. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture as authorized by your Google account settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the Services — syncing your financial data, serving API responses to authorized AI agents, and maintaining your account.
- Improve the Services — analyzing usage patterns, diagnosing technical issues, and developing new features.
- Communicate with you — responding to support requests, sending service announcements, and (with your consent) product updates. You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time.
- Ensure security — detecting fraud, enforcing rate limits, and protecting against unauthorized access or abuse.
- Comply with legal obligations — responding to lawful requests and meeting regulatory requirements.
3. How AI Agents Access Your Data
Wise Penny exposes a read-only API that AI agents (such as Claude Desktop or other MCP-compatible clients) can query on your behalf. Here’s how this works from a privacy perspective:
- You control access. Agents can only access your data when you explicitly authorize them. No agent has access by default.
- Read-only. Agents can query your financial data but cannot modify, delete, or transfer it.
- Data flows to your agent. When you authorize an agent to query Wise Penny, your financial data is transmitted to that agent’s host environment (e.g., Anthropic for Claude Desktop). That data is then subject to the agent provider’s own privacy policy.
- We do not train AI models on your data. Your financial data and queries are not used to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share data only in these circumstances:
| Recipient | What We Share | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Plaid | You interact with Plaid Link directly to authorize account access; Plaid transmits account and transaction data to us. We send Plaid only a user identifier to maintain the connection | Financial data aggregation |
| Payment Provider | You interact with the payment provider directly to enter payment details. We send only an internal customer ID; the provider shares back subscription status and billing contact info | Subscription processing |
| Hosting Provider (Vercel) | Request logs, IP addresses | Infrastructure and delivery |
| Database Provider (Neon) | All application data (encrypted at rest) | Data storage |
| Analytics (PostHog) | Usage data, device/browser info, IP address | Product analytics and service improvement |
| Email (Resend) | Email address, name | Transactional and service emails |
We may also share information:
- With your circle members. When you share a financial account with a circle, all members of that circle can view the shared account data (balances, transactions, account metadata). You control which accounts are shared and can stop sharing at any time. AI agents authorized by any circle member can also access shared data — see Section 3 for details.
- For legal reasons. In response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others.
- In a business transfer. If Matrix Mills, LLC is acquired, merged, or sells assets, user information may transfer to the successor entity under this same Privacy Policy. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
All service providers are contractually required to use your data only for providing services to us and to maintain appropriate security measures.
5. Financial Data: Collection, Storage, and Deletion
Because financial data is especially sensitive, here are the specifics:
- What we store. Account metadata (institution name, account type, masked account numbers, balances) and transaction data (date, amount, merchant, category).
- What we do not store. Your bank login credentials, full account numbers, or routing numbers. These are handled entirely by Plaid and never reach our servers.
- Encryption. Financial data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- Unlinking accounts. You can disconnect a financial account at any time from your account settings. When you unlink an account, we stop syncing new data from that account.
- Deletion. You can request permanent deletion of all financial data associated with a linked account by contacting help@wisepenny.app. We will delete the data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information only as long as necessary:
| Data Type | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Account profile | Until you delete your account |
| Financial data | Until you unlink the account and request deletion, or delete your account |
| Usage and log data | Up to 12 months |
| Support communications | Up to 24 months after resolution |
When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.
7. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies for:
- Authentication. Keeping you signed in across sessions.
- Preferences. Remembering your settings.
- Analytics. Understanding aggregate usage patterns to improve the Services. We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog’s handling of your data is governed by the PostHog Privacy Policy.
We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking pixels.
Do Not Track. Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There is no industry standard for responding to DNT signals, so we do not currently alter our data collection practices in response to DNT. If a universal standard is adopted, we will revisit this position.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Choices
- Limit information. You can decline to provide optional profile details.
- Unlink accounts. Disconnect financial accounts at any time from your settings.
- Opt out of emails. Follow unsubscribe links in non-essential emails, or contact help@wisepenny.app.
- Delete your account. Email help@wisepenny.app to request full account deletion.
Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including California, Virginia, Colorado, and Connecticut), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete your personal information.
- Port your data in a machine-readable format.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell your data, but you can exercise this right for the record).
- Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any right, contact help@wisepenny.app. We will respond within 45 days (or sooner where required by law). If we cannot fulfill a request, we will explain why in writing, and you may appeal by replying to our response.
9. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no system is perfectly secure — we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never defeat our measures. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
10. Children’s Privacy
The Services are not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact help@wisepenny.app and we will promptly delete it.
11. Third-Party Links
The Services may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service you visit.
12. Financial Disclaimer
Wise Penny is a financial data platform, not a bank, broker, or investment advisor. We do not provide investment, tax, or legal advice. Financial data displayed through the Services is for informational purposes only. Investment products and balances shown are not FDIC-insured and carry no bank guarantee.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice in the Services before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
